Gender Disparities in Music: A Persistent Challenge
Women continue to make strides in various industries, including music, though gender disparities persist. According to the Billboard Hot 100 Year-End Report, women accounted for only 18.9% of songwriters and 5.9% of producers on major charts in 2024. To address this gap, IPRS & Sony Music Publishing launch initiative for female music creators, aiming to provide more opportunities and visibility for women in the industry.
KOLAB HER MUSIC CAMP 2025: A Collaborative Initiative for Female Creators
To address this gap, the Indian Performing Right Society Ltd. (IPRS) and Sony Music Publishing launched the KOLAB HER MUSIC CAMP 2025, an initiative aimed at supporting female music creators. The camp took place at Bay Owl Studios in Mumbai from March 5th to 7th, providing a collaborative space for female songwriters, composers, and producers.

The three-day event featured co-writing and production sessions, allowing participants to create original compositions while working with industry professionals. The camp focused on fostering collaboration and providing opportunities for women in music to gain visibility and expand their professional networks.

Varun Parikh, Founder and Facility Director at Bay Owl Studios, expressed support for initiatives that provide artists with opportunities for creative growth.
