Music producer and composer Abhijit Vaghani has launched The SWAMP Academy, a new music education institute in Mumbai offering diploma and certification programmes across music production, songwriting, vocals and instruments.
Located in Versova, the academy spans more than 5,000 sq. ft. across three floors and includes classrooms, jam rooms and collaborative learning spaces. The institute’s first full-time Diploma in Music Production programme is scheduled to begin on 2 September 2026, while shorter three-month certification courses will also be offered.
SWAMP, which stands for Songwriting and Music Production, has been set up with a focus on combining creative development with practical industry training. According to Vaghani, the academy was conceived as a space where aspiring musicians can develop both technical skills and their own artistic identity while learning from working professionals.
“The music industry has given me a lot over the last 25 years, and this academy is my way of giving back by helping shape the next generation of Indian music professionals,” said Vaghani. “We want students to not only master the technical and creative aspects of music, but also develop their unique artistic identity through mentorship, collaboration, performance opportunities and exposure to industry professionals.”
The academy’s faculty consists of practising music professionals, while its advisory panel includes names such as Pritam Chakraborty, Shekhar Ravjiani, Salim Merchant, Sulaiman Merchant, Harshdeep Kaur, Ash King, Amaal Malik, Armaan Malik, Meghdeep Bose, Vijay Dayal, Aftab Khan, Shomu Seal, Rochak Kohli, Gaurav Vaswani, Shannon Donald and Esani Dey.
The SWAMP Academy has also reserved two seats in each batch for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The campus has been designed with accessibility features, including ramp access and infrastructure intended to accommodate students with different physical abilities.
The launch comes at a time when India’s music education ecosystem is expanding beyond traditional performance training, with a growing number of institutions focusing on contemporary music production, songwriting and industry-oriented skills.
