Warner Music Group (WMG) is expanding its Global Tech division with a new technology hub in Bengaluru, strengthening its engineering and AI operations in India.
The facility will support WMG’s global technology operations across music distribution, data infrastructure and product development. Its work will span core data pipelines, audience and marketing data products, as well as engineering initiatives involving AI and other emerging technologies.
Mahesh Rao, Director of Software Engineering and Site Lead for India, is leading the expansion. He will oversee WMG’s engineering strategy, organisational design, budgets and operating model in India, reporting to Toronto-based Chief Technology Officer Leho Nigul. Rao previously worked at Walmart Global Tech, where he led software development for the retail company.
The Bengaluru team has been building its capabilities over the past year, with the new facility expected to officially open next month. WMG is currently hiring across several technology functions as it expands the team.
“We’re building a world-class music tech organization right here in Bengaluru. The caliber of talent in this market is exceptional, and we’re looking for ambitious engineers and innovators who want to help shape the future of the global music industry,” said Rao.
Nigul said Bengaluru will play a central role in WMG’s wider engineering strategy, pointing to investments in local leadership and technology infrastructure as the company looks to attract engineering talent to work on large-scale systems across music and AI.
Warner Music India Managing Director Jay Mehta said the expansion builds on WMG’s investment in the Indian market since establishing its Mumbai headquarters six years ago.
“Since establishing our presence in India six years ago with our Mumbai headquarters, WMG has been deeply committed to the market. Our global leadership recognizes the incredible opportunities here, from our vibrant creative ecosystem to our world-class technology talent. I’m delighted that Mahesh is spearheading our expansion in Bengaluru,” Mehta said.
