Songpact launches in India to simplify music contracts for creators

Songpact launches in India, offering creators an easy way to manage, sign, and understand music contracts.
Songpact debuts in India with a mission to make music contracts simple, transparent, and accessible for creators and independent artists.

India’s music business continues to scale globally, driven by streaming, expanding international audiences, and a growing pool of creators. But while the creative and commercial sides of the industry have evolved, the administrative and legal processes supporting it have largely remained outdated, often relying on informal agreements, inconsistent documentation, and long turnaround times.

Addressing this gap, Songpact has officially launched in India, aiming to make professional music contracts accessible, affordable, and efficient for every creator, not just the top tier.

Priyanka Khimani, Co-Founder and Strategic Advisor at Songpact, said, “Throughout my professional journey, I’ve always endeavoured to make legal assistance and guidance available to all types of creators, across different stages of their careers and economic strata. India is a diverse and large country, and technology is one of our biggest assets when it comes to serving the community at scale. Songpact coming to India will be an affordable, pocket-friendly solution that’ll enable artists and their teams to create, negotiate and manage their everyday contracts.”

Songpact’s platform simplifies contract creation through a guided workflow. Instead of lengthy document exchanges, users respond to straightforward prompts about their commercial terms, supported by built-in explainers. The platform then generates a plain-language contract that can be e-signed and securely stored, enabling creators to manage agreements from start to finish within one system.

“The idea was to make the experience of creating contracts as friendly and intuitive as possible,” Khimani added. “Instead of endless mark-ups of Word documents, users answer clear, straightforward questions in-platform about the commercial terms, with easy-to-follow explainers along the way to create and negotiate a draft contract in minutes.”

Nick Weaser, Co-Founder and CEO of Songpact, said, “The rest of the music industry has adapted and evolved, with cutting-edge tools for live, distribution, marketing and management. But throughout the world, the music contract process has remained exactly the same for decades. We’re changing that. Songpact isn’t just about contracts. It’s about empowering creators with access, knowledge, confidence, and a sense of fairness. It levels the playing field.”

Songpact offers a tiered subscription model, ranging from free access with pay-as-you-go credits to paid plans starting at ₹1,999 per month, with bundled credits that accumulate over time.

Following its launches in the UK, Australia and South Africa, India marks Songpact’s latest expansion.

Weaser added, “We are incredibly proud to bring Songpact to India. It’s one of the world’s most dynamic and burgeoning music markets, and home to some extraordinary creative talent. But like everywhere else, the contracting process is archaic and expensive, often forcing creators to choose between paying heavily, risking a handshake deal, or worse, skipping the paperwork entirely. Songpact removes that barrier and makes professional music contracts accessible to everyone.”
