The Out of the Box (OOTB) Educators Community has announced the second edition of OOTB Soundboard, a one-day symposium for music educators, artist-educators and arts practitioners. Powered by OffSet Education, the event will take place on 2 August at The Humming Tree in Bengaluru.
Designed as a professional development and networking platform, the symposium will feature workshops, a panel discussion, a fireside conversation and a community mixer, bringing together educators and practitioners from across the music and arts education space.
The programme is set to feature sessions with Pallavi MD, Dr. Wendy Dickson, Bindu Subramaniam, Dr. Shobhana Mathews and Dr. Karl Lutchmayer, among others, with the full programme to be announced in the coming weeks. The opening keynote will be delivered by researcher, singer, performer and documentary filmmaker Shilpa Mudbi, whose work focuses on preserving and archiving folk-art forms in Karnataka.
Speaking about the symposium, Nush Lewis, Co-Founder of the Out of the Box Educators Community, said, “We often create spaces for students to perform and grow, but educators rarely have spaces designed for their own learning. Soundboard was created to change that. It’s only when we see that collaboration will we see a shift in the arts education landscape. Our vision is to build a community where educators can exchange ideas, challenge one another, and collectively shape the future of music education in India.”
Shanelle Rodrigues, Co-Founder of the Out of the Box Educators Community, added, “Some of the most valuable learning happens when educators learn from one another. Soundboard is about creating a space where ideas can be exchanged openly, questions can be explored together, and meaningful professional relationships can grow. We hope every participant leaves not only with new tools and perspectives, but also with renewed inspiration and practical ideas they can bring back to their own classrooms.”
The first edition of Soundboard was held in Mumbai and brought together educators from independent studios, schools, music academies and arts organisations. According to the organisers, this year’s edition will build on that foundation with an expanded programme and a greater emphasis on collaboration across disciplines.
OOTB Educators Community is an initiative of OffSet Education, founded by musician and educator Nush Lewis and educator Shanelle Rodrigues. Registration for the event is now open, with early bird registrations available until 20 July.
