Anirudh Ravichander has announced the launch of his own music label, Albuquerque Records, marking a strategic move beyond his long-standing dominance in film soundtracks and into the wider non-film and independent music space.
In a statement shared on social media, Anirudh Ravichander described the label as an important step in both his creative and business journey. Albuquerque Records will serve as a home for his film and non-film releases, while also functioning as a platform to support emerging artists and original voices.
“This label gives me a home for both my film and non-film work while also supporting new, talented artists who deserve to be seen and heard,” he wrote. “We want to build a strong catalogue, introduce original voices, and fuel a brand that pushes the regional non-film music culture forward.”
According to Anirudh Ravichander, select soundtrack projects will be released through the label, alongside all of his non-film and pop releases. This signals a move towards greater ownership and control over his catalogue, at a time when leading composers and artists are increasingly building independent infrastructures around their work.
Albuquerque Records will be led by B Kaushik, who has been appointed as Label Head and Chief Operating Officer. Anirudh Ravichander said that Kaushik and his team would play a central role in building a “meaningful and lasting” organisation, suggesting a long-term vision rather than a short-term vanity imprint.
The launch reflects a broader shift within India’s regional and mainstream music industries, where top creators are moving beyond traditional label partnerships to establish their own distribution, development and branding ecosystems. For artists with established fan bases and commercial leverage, such structures offer greater flexibility across film, streaming and live markets.
Anirudh Ravichander’s entry into the label business also comes at a time when non-film music in South India is seeing renewed momentum, driven by streaming growth, creator-led releases and expanding live circuits.
Alongside the announcement, Albuquerque Records has invited independent artists to submit finished demos for consideration, positioning the label as an open platform for new talent alongside its founder’s releases.
With Albuquerque Records, Anirudh Ravichander joins a growing group of Indian artist-entrepreneurs seeking to shape not only their own careers, but also the next phase of regional and independent music development.
