Artist-run festival Slingshot expands to India with Mumbai edition

Slingshot, the internationally recognised, artist-run festival operating at the intersection of electronic music, digital art, and emerging technology, has announced its first-ever India edition. The festival will take place on 21–22 February 2026at Mumbai’s G5A Warehouse, bringing together Indian and international electronic musicians, artist-led workshops, and immersive digital art installations.

Founded in 2013 in Durham, North Carolina, Slingshot Festival has developed into a global platform for experimental practice across dance, electronic, avant-pop, and exploratory sound. Conceived and run by artists, the festival has consistently foregrounded process, collaboration, and cross-border exchange, hosting musicians, visual artists, and arts technologists from across the world. Its Mumbai edition marks Slingshot’s first expansion into South Asia, reflecting both the festival’s international outlook and the growing visibility of India’s electronic and experimental music ecosystems.

The India lineup features a broad cross-section of the country’s electronic scene, including Karshni, Sijya, Ruhail Qaisar, Philtersoup, Bigfat x Myles, Echologue, Sourya, Sen, Spiralynk, Pardafash, Panelia, Varun Desai, Pale Blue Dotter, and Sanaya Ardeshir. They will perform alongside international artists such as avant-garde composer Barker, presenting both live and DJ sets, drummer and composer Deantoni Parks, robotic engineer and techno musician Moritz Simon Geist, composer and DJ Debit, and Ugandan MC Yallah.

In addition to performances, Slingshot Mumbai will place a strong emphasis on education and experimentation. The programme includes artist-led workshops offering insight into electronic music production, digital art practice, and creative technologies. Among these are sessions exploring creative applications of Claude, Anthropic’s AI assistant, within music-making and interactive art. Slingshot is presented in partnership with Claude, which joins the festival as its official event partner and sponsor. Attendance to the main festival is free with RSVP, while workshop sessions will be ticketed separately.

A central feature of the Mumbai edition is an interactive installation commissioned by Rhizome, in partnership with Claude. Founded in 1996 by artist Mark Tribe, Rhizome is widely regarded as a leading international organisation supporting born-digital art and culture through commissions, public programmes, art–technology collaborations, and digital preservation initiatives. Now an independent affiliate of the New Museum in New York, Rhizome has played a significant role in shaping how digital and internet-based art is produced, exhibited, and archived.

The commissioned installation, conceptualised by Slingshot director Kai Riedl alongside Eric Marty, is designed as an evolving, responsive composition. Bringing together musicians and visual artists from India and abroad. The work uses real-time data such as audience movement, presence, and stillness to shape sound and visuals as they unfold, creating a continuously shifting audiovisual environment.

“Slingshot has always been about creating meaningful connections between artists and audiences across borders,” said festival director Kai Riedl. “Bringing the festival to Mumbai allows us to celebrate India’s thriving electronic music scene while fostering dialogue with a global community of sonic innovators.”

With its mix of live performance, workshops, and interactive digital art, Slingshot’s India debut positions Mumbai as a new node within the festival’s international network, while offering Indian artists and audiences direct engagement with global practices in electronic music and digital art.
