Warner Music India returns with Maati Season 2

The second season spans eight languages and brings together folk and contemporary artists across a new eight-track slate

Warner Music India has launched the second season of its folk-focused IP Maati, expanding the project across eight languages and a new set of collaborations between contemporary and traditional artists.

The season begins on September 3, 2026, with ‘Jalwa-E-Jaanaan’, composed by Anurag Saikia, sung by Jyoti Nooran and written by Shakeel Azmi.

Rooted in the Sufi idea of Wahdat al-Wujud, or the Unity of Being, the track explores the relationship between the seeker and the Divine, and the belief that the two are not separate from one another.

For its second season, Maati places greater emphasis on the cultural settings behind the music. The project has been shot across landscapes, communities and locations connected to the traditions being represented, bringing the visual and geographical context of each form into the storytelling.

The eight-track season spans Koshur/Hindi, Tamil, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Telugu, Haryanvi, Urdu and Kannada. Artists featured across the season include Shubha Mudgal, Alif, Sudan, Orfo, Sublahshini, Keli Thee, Anurag Saikia, Jyoti Nooran, Kalpana Patowary, Mangli, Sanjith Hegde, MC Square and Satindar Sartaj, among others.

Warner Music India first launched Maati in October 2024 as a platform bringing regional folk traditions into conversation with contemporary music. According to the company, the first season generated more than 78 million digital views.

Speaking about ‘Jalwa-E-Jaanaan’, Jyoti Nooran said, “Jalwa-E-Jaanaan carries a beautiful thought that the Divine and the seeker are not separate, but find meaning in each other. Singing a piece with such depth was a truly soulful experience, and I hope its emotion resonates with listeners beyond language.”

Anurag Saikia added, “Composing this track was about creating a soundscape that could hold the depth of Shakeel Azmi’s poetry and Jyoti Nooran’s powerful voice, while retaining the soul of Sufi music. The song explores love, devotion and the pursuit of the Divine, and Maati gave us the opportunity to revisit this timeless tradition through a contemporary musical lens while staying true to its essence.”

Jay Mehta, Managing Director, Warner Music India & SAARC, said the second season is intended to widen the reach of India’s regional traditions while keeping the focus on the artists and communities behind them.

“India’s folk traditions are a living part of our culture. They carry stories, ideas and ways of seeing the world that have travelled across generations,” he said. “With Maati, our ambition is to bring these traditions to new audiences while giving the artists and communities behind them the recognition they deserve. Season 2 takes that ambition further, bringing together languages, artists and cultural landscapes, while staying true to the music at its heart.”

Maati Season 2 launches on September 3 with ‘Jalwa-E-Jaanaan’, with the remaining tracks set to roll out as part of the eight-song season.
