Warner Music Group and Netflix have entered into an exclusive, multi-year first-look partnership to develop documentary films and series based on the lives, music and legacies of the company’s artists and songwriters.
Under the deal, Netflix will work with WMG to create long-form projects featuring both legacy and current artists from its global roster, building out a slate of music-led storytelling for international audiences.
WMG has partnered with Unigram as its production arm for long-form content. Led by Amanda Ghost and Gregor Cameron, Unigram will develop projects alongside WMG and Netflix, working directly with artists and their estates.
Robert Kyncl, CEO of Warner Music Group, said, “The combination of Warner Music Group’s IP with Netflix’s global reach is an incredible opportunity to introduce new fans to our artists and songwriters all around the world.”
Adam Del Deo, Vice President of Documentary Films and Series at Netflix, added, “We’ve seen how music inspires incredible fandom on Netflix, so we’re excited to partner with Warner Music Group and the artists they work with to bring more music storytelling to our members.”
The deal reflects the continued push by music companies to extend artist IP into film and streaming, while giving platforms like Netflix access to established catalogues and stories with built-in audiences.
