TuneCore, a leading platform for self-releasing artists and part of Believe—one of the world’s top digital music companies—has launched the ‘Indian Indie Round Table’.
The discussion is hosted by music journalist Amit Gurbaxani and features singer-songwriter Yohan Marshall, music producer Hrishi, and Meher Sachdeva, Head of Talent at artist management agency Under The Radar.
Yohan Marshall joined TuneCore as a self-releasing artist in 2024, releasing tracks like ‘Jo Tu Mere Paas Hai’, ‘Bawara Mann’, and ‘Just for Once’ in collaboration with indie singer-songwriter Mali. Hrishi, known for his standout Malayalam hip-hop tracks such as ‘Pottan’, ‘Aana’, ‘Penmai’, and ‘Marathakam’, has been releasing music through TuneCore since 2021. Under The Radar’s Meher Sachdeva works with several artists using TuneCore, including Ritviz, who has been with the platform since its launch in India in 2020.
The round table is part of TuneCore’s global ‘TuneCore Rewind’ campaign, which launched in 2023. The initiative provides independent artists with an annual year-end summary of their music’s performance across streaming platforms, accessible via their TuneCore dashboard.
Akhila Shankar, Head of TuneCore – South Asia, said, “In developing this roundtable discussion, our goal is to provide a space for discourse surrounding independent music in India from the perspective of both artists and executives. As much as it reflects on the year in music, this conversation also serves to inform and educate the larger community of artists about the opportunities and challenges of being independent/self-releasing and how to make it work for you.”
The panel explores the successes and challenges of independent artists in 2024, the dynamics of navigating India’s local language-first market, and the growing role of social media in creating viral hits. They also discuss their expectations for 2025 and the evolving opportunities for independent creators.
