SEVENTEEN’s FML named biggest-selling album globally by IFPI in 2023

SEVENTEEN’s album ‘FML’ topped the charts and bagged the IFPI Global Album Award for 2023, making it the best-selling album worldwide. The IFPI Global Album Award considers an album’s global sales across streaming, downloads, and physical formats throughout the year.

Released in April 2023, ‘FML made history as the most pre-ordered K-Pop album and debuted at No.1 in South Korea, also hitting No.1 in Japan and making it to the Top 5 in France and the US. SEVENTEEN’s follow-up album, ‘SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN,’ released in October, secured the No.8 spot in the IFPI Global Album Chart.

Notably, K-Pop acts dominated the charts, with five of the Top 10 albums, showcasing the genre’s best-ever performance. Stray Kids had two albums in the Top 10, with ‘5-STAR’ at No.2 and ‘ROCK-STAR’ at No.9. NCT DREAM’s ‘ISTJ’ made its debut at No.6, while ZEROBASEONE and IVE also marked their entry at No.18 and No.20, respectively.

Jung Kook, following the global success of BTS, debuted solo with ‘GOLDEN’ at No.14. Taylor Swift, the IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year, secured two Top 10 spots with ‘Midnights’ at No.4 and “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” at No.5.

North American artists claimed the remaining Top 10 spots, with Morgan Wallen’s ‘One Thing At A Time’ at No.3, SZA’s ‘SOS’ at No.7, and Travis Scott’s ‘UTOPIA’ at No.10, marking their first appearances in the IFPI Global Album Chart.

Lewis Morrison, Director of Global Charts & Certifications at IFPI, expressed delight in awarding SEVENTEEN and acknowledged the dynamic nature of recorded music, emphasizing artists’ success across genres, geographies, and formats.
