Sangeet Dwar has been soft-launched as a unified digital platform aimed at streamlining public performance music licensing across India, marking a coordinated effort by key rights and licensing bodies to simplify compliance for music users.
The platform has been developed through a joint initiative involving the Indian Performing Right Society, Phonographic Performance Limited India, Novex Communications Pvt. Ltd., and Recorded Music Performance Limited, with support from industry associations. It brings together multiple licensing stakeholders under a single digital framework for the first time.
Sangeet Dwar enables event organisers, venues, wedding planners, corporates, and institutions to obtain public performance licences through one online interface. Instead of approaching multiple agencies separately, users can now secure permissions for live and recorded music across events, festivals, hospitality venues, and social functions through a consolidated process.
The initiative reflects a broader industry push to formalise public music usage and reduce friction in licensing workflows through technology-led systems.
Veteran vocalist and Padma Shri awardee Anup Jalota, who has been associated with the industry working group behind the project, said the platform would improve transparency while strengthening compensation mechanisms for creators.
“Sangeet Dwar makes licensing more accessible and structured. It supports organisers while ensuring that singers, composers, musicians, and copyright holders receive what is due to them,” he said.
Sanjay Tandon, Founder of the Indian Singers and Musicians Rights Association (ISAMRA), highlighted the long-standing challenges around royalty collection and compliance in public music usage.
“For years, performers and musicians have operated within an unstructured system. Composers, writers, publishers, and sound recording owners have not received fair royalties from the use of their work,” he said. “Sangeet Dwar simplifies procedures, increases awareness, and strengthens royalty flows. It creates practical ease of doing business for music users.”
Industry estimates suggest that a substantial proportion of public performances in India continues to take place without proper licensing, resulting in revenue leakage across the creative value chain. This impacts singers, musicians, composers, producers, and publishers alike.
By centralising access and standardising processes, Sangeet Dwar is positioned to reduce ambiguity for event managers while reinforcing intellectual property protection for creators. The platform aims to support the long-term development of a more accountable and sustainable public performance ecosystem.
The Sangeet Dwar portal is now live at https://vasantsangeetdwar.in/
Conceived as India’s first integrated digital gateway for public performance music licensing, the platform has been developed through coordinated efforts between major rights organisations, with the objective of strengthening compliance while safeguarding creator interests.
