BookASmile & Sound Space Foundation empower Mumbai students through music

BookASmile, the charitable initiative by BookMyShow, has collaborated with Sound Space Foundation to introduce a choir program for students in five municipal schools in Mumbai.

The program, designed as an extracurricular activity for students aged 8 to 14 from marginalized backgrounds in Abhyudaya Nagar and Akanksha Foundation, aims to democratize access to music.

The structured choir program provides vocal and choir training with a focus on classical music in Indian languages, English, and various African languages. Throughout the year, students get opportunities to participate in local events, leading to an annual showcase.

Supported by BookASmile, the initiative has positively impacted over 100 students across 135 classes, fostering a love for music and enhancing their overall well-being.

The inclusive selection process involved teachers identifying students with a passion for music and conducting auditions to gauge their interest and commitment. Chosen students dedicated their time weekly after school to participate in the program, contributing to a relaxed mindset that improves focus in academic studies.

BookASmile’s support to Sound Space Foundation aligns with a shared vision to promote talent and empower the underprivileged by providing equal access to music. The collaboration reflects a commitment to holistic individual development through music programs for underprivileged children.

Over the past months, the choir program has not only honed musical abilities but also broadened students’ perspectives, emphasizing the importance of learning an art form. Beyond academics, the program has contributed to a holistic approach to learning and personal development.

Kamakshi and Vishala Khurana of Sound Space Foundation expressed their excitement about the positive impact of the choir program, emphasizing its role in cultivating a holistic approach to learning and personal development.

Farzana Cama Balpande, Head of BookASmile, highlighted the transformative power of music to uplift and empower individuals from all walks of life. The collaboration with Sound Space Foundation aims to democratize access to music and foster emotional, social, and intellectual growth.
