‘Kalyani Remix’ becomes first Malayalam song to enter YouTube’s Global Charts

Malayalam music has reached a new milestone on the global streaming stage, with ARJN, KDS, RONN and FIFTY4’s ‘Kalyani Remix’, featuring Shreya Ghoshal, becoming the first Malayalam song to enter YouTube’s Global Charts. The track peaked at No. 2, extending the reach of a song that first gained traction as an independent Malayalam release.

Released through Def Jam Recordings India, the remix has brought together the production and songwriting of ARJN, KDS, RONN and FIFTY4 with Ghoshal’s vocals, while retaining the Malayalam character of the original. The song’s performance comes amid a wider rise in regional Indian music finding audiences outside its primary language markets.

The original ‘Kalyani’ has crossed 90 million streams on Spotify. The remix has since built on that momentum, reaching No. 1 on YouTube’s charts in India and the UAE, No. 3 on YouTube’s Top 200 in India and No. 1 in the UAE. It has also topped Shazam’s Top 200 charts in both India and the UAE, as well as the platform’s Viral chart in India.

The accompanying music video, featuring Malayalam actor Saniya Iyappan, has passed 30 million views on YouTube. Its choreography has also become a key part of the track’s online presence, with creator Neeluvami’s recreation of Iyappan’s choreography crossing two million views. Iyappan responded to the recreation herself, adding to the conversation around the song.

The remix has also drawn attention outside the Malayalam music ecosystem. Cordell Broadus, son of Snoop Dogg, shared the track, after which Snoop Dogg posted the ‘Kalyani Remix’ video on Instagram. Actor Akhila Bhargavan has also participated in the trend with a semi-classical performance to Ghoshal’s section of the song.

These moments have helped ‘Kalyani Remix’ move beyond its streaming numbers, with its music, choreography and visual identity travelling across social media and entertainment communities. The response also points to how regional-language releases can find wider audiences when music platforms, creators and social media amplify them organically.

For ARJN, KDS, RONN and FIFTY4, ‘Kalyani Remix’ builds on a collaborative run that includes ‘Nera’, ‘Sheriya’ and ‘Chillara Flex’. Their work draws from contemporary Kerala sounds while incorporating elements of Afro-R&B, hip-hop and melodic pop, forming a sound that has increasingly connected with listeners beyond the region.
