Yash Raj Films (YRF) has entered the independent music space with the launch of Raah Records, a new label focused on discovering, developing and supporting original artists. The company says the initiative is designed to provide long-term artist development rather than operate as a traditional release-driven record label.
The label’s first release, Jaadugari by singer-songwriter Aman, arrives on 5 August, marking the beginning of YRF’s latest music venture.
For decades, YRF has built one of India’s most recognised film music catalogues through its soundtracks. With Raah Records, the studio is extending its music business beyond cinema, with an emphasis on original music, artist development and career-building.
Commenting on the launch, Akshaye Widhani, CEO, Yash Raj Films, said: “Raah Records represents an important strategic expansion of Yash Raj Films’ music business. For over five decades, we have believed in identifying exceptional talent and creating platforms where creativity can thrive. As India’s independent music ecosystem enters a defining phase of growth, we believe great artists need more than distribution; they need belief, time and long-term creative partnership. Raah Records is built around careers, not campaigns, bringing together world-class A&R, artist development, marketing and distribution to help original artists build lasting careers.”
Raah Records will be led by Nakul Sharma, Senior General Manager – Music Management, Yash Raj Films, who has been involved in shaping the label’s A&R strategy, artist development approach and incubator model. The label says it will work with artists from the early stages of their careers, supporting songwriting, production, creative direction, audience development and strategic partnerships.
Speaking about the label and its debut release, Sharma said: “Raah Records was built on a belief that artists need time, they need trust, and they need the space to grow into who they already are. Our role is to stand beside them throughout that journey, helping them build lasting careers without losing what makes them unique. Aman is exactly the kind of artist we built Raah for, and Jaadugari felt like a fitting way to begin his journey and the label’s.”
According to YRF, Jaadugari follows a year of creative collaboration with Aman, with the track serving as the first official release under the Raah Records banner.
The company added that it plans to expand the label’s roster over the coming months with additional artist signings and original releases as it builds its presence in India’s independent music market.
