Spotify has named Sunidhi Chauhan its EQUAL Global Ambassador for June 2026, making her the latest artist to be featured as part of the platform’s global initiative celebrating women in music. As the month’s ambassador, Chauhan also appears on the cover of the EQUAL Global and EQUAL India playlists.
Launched in 2021, Spotify EQUAL is the streaming platform’s global programme aimed at improving the visibility of women creators through editorial playlists, on-platform promotion and marketing initiatives. Each month, Spotify spotlights artists from participating markets whose work and influence extend beyond their home territories.
With a career spanning more than two decades, Sunidhi Chauhan has recorded thousands of songs across multiple Indian languages and remains one of the country’s most recognised playback singers and live performers. According to Spotify, India and the United States are currently her top streaming markets on the platform.
As part of the campaign, Sunidhi Chauhan reflected on the experiences and influences that have shaped her career. Speaking about her creative process, she said inspiration begins with the songwriting.
“Inspiration comes from lyrics, from the meaning of the song. I think everything that comes out, whether it’s an emotion or a feeling, is because of the lyrics combined with the tune.”
Looking back on her journey, Sunidhi Chauhan described winning the Lata Mangeshkar Trophy for Meri Aawaz Suno as one of the defining moments of her career.
“When I won the Lata Mangeshkar Trophy for Meri Aawaz Suno, it was an unbelievable moment for me.”
She also recalled a difficult lesson from her teenage years that ultimately changed her approach to singing.
“As a teenager, it was humiliating to hear someone I looked up to say, ‘You are not good enough. If you keep singing like this, you’ll have to pack your bags and leave for your hometown.’ It was not said in a nice way and definitely didn’t sound like advice, but it did change something in me that day and today I feel grateful for it.”
When asked about the artists who have influenced her, Sunidhi Chauhan named Lata Mangeshkar, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, Alisha Chinai and Alicia Keys. She also cited Beyoncé’s Dangerously in Love as her favourite album and highlighted “Titliyan” from the soundtrack of Rocky Handsome as a personal favourite from her own catalogue.
Commenting on the recognition, Spotify said Chauhan’s appointment acknowledges both her body of work and her contribution to increasing the visibility of women in music. The platform noted that her career reflects the goals of the EQUAL programme, which seeks to champion greater representation and opportunities for women artists globally.
