Snapchat adds audio from Sony

Snapchat, owned by parent company Snap Inc, has announced the social media app is adding audio from Sony Music Entertainment to its Sounds library. The latest deal cements the app’s relationship with all major music players in the industry: Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, and Warner Music Group. Additionally, Snapchat has already inked deals with Warner Chappell, BMG, Kobalt.

Recently, Snapchat also announced a collaboration with Flipkart, the e-commerce website, to develop augmented reality (AR) experiences for online shopping. There’s also been the launch of virtual try-ons with Sugar Cosmetics and MyGlamm. Furthermore, in October the app announced a milestone of 100 million monthly users in India.

Earlier this year, the company held the Snap Partner Summit 2021 where Snapchat revealed that its daily active users (DAU) in India grew 100% year-over-year in each of the last five quarters.

“With over 200 million Snapchatters engaging with augmented reality every day, we know they love using our Lenses to express themselves,” said the company in a post. “So, we’re expanding the music experience on Snapchat by adding Sounds into our AR Lenses available in the Lens Carousel and experimenting with new formats.”

Snapchat will also release Sound Lenses, that feature pre-selected songs and visual effects to transform “pictures of anyone to appear as if they are singing a song”. Additionally, there’s the Cameo Sound Lenses that apply visual effects to “put you and a friend as the stars of your own animated music video”. To find Lenses with Sounds, look for Lenses that have a musical note icon on the Lens icon.

“These new Sound Lenses will make for a more immersive music experience, and open a proven and powerful way for artists to share music on Snapchat,” said the statement.
