Introduction

BookMyShow Foundation has launched BookAChange, an initiative to provide access to music and performing arts for underprivileged individuals.

Originally introduced as BookASmile in 2014, the program has evolved with a renewed focus on supporting marginalized communities through music education and performance opportunities.

The Evolution from BookASmile to BookAChange

A Renewed Commitment to Social Impact

A newly introduced music scholarship program will offer 500 scholarships to talented individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds across India. These scholarships will support students and street artists pursuing education in areas such as instrumental music, vocals, audio production, music business, and songwriting at accredited institutions.

Beyond Music – A Holistic Development Approach

BookAChange seeks to foster holistic development beyond music skills, emphasizing emotional, social, and intellectual growth. Through financial assistance and mentorship, it aims to empower emerging artists and bridge gaps in access to music education.

Public Participation – Small Donations, Big Impact

To engage the public, consumers can contribute by adding a small donation to their ticket purchases, starting from Re. 1. This collective effort supports various programs, including specialized training in rap and DJing for 30 students in Dharavi and a 10-month Hindustani classical choir program for 125 children in Mumbai’s BMC schools.

Music Bus – Taking Learning to the Streets

In Delhi, a mobile recording studio, the Music Bus, provides hands-on experience in songwriting, recording, and production to over 6,000 children. The initiative also brings therapeutic music sessions to senior citizen homes and orphanages through the ‘#MusicForAll’ program.

A Life-Changing Experience – Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres Tour

As part of its efforts, 25 beneficiaries—20 students and 5 music educators—attended Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour in Mumbai, offering them a firsthand experience of a large-scale live performance.

Supporting the Red Lorry Film Festival

Additionally, BookAChange supports the Red Lorry Film Festival, aimed at raising funds for emerging artists and daily wage workers in the cinema industry.

The Future of BookAChange

Building on the strong foundation laid by BookASmile, BookAChange aims to expand its reach and impact. By leveraging technology, strategic partnerships, and community-driven efforts, it aspires to become India’s leading platform for promoting music education among underserved populations.

Conclusion

BookAChange is more than just a scholarship program—it is a movement dedicated to making music education accessible, fostering talent, and empowering individuals from marginalized communities. Through financial assistance, mentorship, and public engagement, it strives to bring real change to aspiring musicians’ lives.

Whether you’re a music lover, a student, or simply someone who believes in the power of the arts, you can contribute to this incredible initiative. A small step, like adding a donation to your ticket purchase, can go a long way in shaping the future of a budding musician.
