Honoring the Legacy of Ustad Zakir Hussain

Known for his contributions to fusion music and cross-cultural collaborations, Ustad Zakir Hussain played a significant role in expanding the reach of Indian percussion. His influence will be a central theme of this year’s festival, which continues to serve as a platform for both traditional and contemporary percussive styles.

A Platform for Diverse Percussion Styles

The Mahindra Percussion Festival brings together a diverse mix of artists from India and around the world. Past editions have featured musicians blending classical percussion with electronic, jazz, and global influences, highlighting the evolving nature of rhythm-based music. The festival aims to create space for artistic exchange while celebrating percussion’s deep-rooted history in Indian classical traditions.

Perspectives from Festival Organizers

Jay Shah, Vice President – Cultural Outreach at Mahindra Group, noted, “The Mahindra Percussion Festival aims to put percussion at the forefront, showcasing the wide range of percussive instruments and styles. Like all our Cultural Outreach programs, this festival seeks to discover, inspire, and celebrate artists and art forms.”

VG Jairam, Founder of Hyperlink Brand Solutions, added, “Since its inception, the festival’s key focus has been its unique curation—each artist crafts an exclusive performance that explores percussion across genres and soundscapes. This year, we are honoured to pay tribute to the legendary Ustad Zakir Hussain, whose impact on music and percussion remains profound.”

Experience Rhythm, Tradition, and Innovation

With performances spanning different traditions and experimental sounds, the third edition of the Mahindra Percussion Festival will continue its exploration of rhythm, tradition, and innovation in contemporary music.
