Chennai-born Ramprasad “Ram” Sundar is a pioneering executive in the global entertainment industry, distinguished by his rare ability to bridge the gap between cinematic composition for storytelling and music technology. He currently serves as the Head of Music, India & APAC for Amazon MGM Studios, where he steers the creative and strategic direction for original content across the Asia-Pacific region.
A globally educated leader with a background in electronics and music composition, Ram is one of the few executives to have successfully transitioned from cinematic scoring to building virtual instruments for music technology giants, as well as commissioning scores for major global streaming platforms. His diverse portfolio spans scoring feature films, developing industry-standard audio software for companies like Apple and Native Instruments, and pioneering the Music Creative and Production vertical for Netflix in the APAC region.
Early Career & Music
Ram’s journey began with a simultaneous pursuit of technical precision and musical expression, a combination that continues to define his professional identity.
The Techno-Creative Foundation: Born in Chennai, Ram earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics before moving to New York for a Master’s in Music Composition in Films and TV. This unique academic path allowed him to navigate the complex world of audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) while simultaneously mastering orchestration. This was followed by his second master’s in Los Angeles, California, in Music Composition in AR, VR, and Video Games, taking it up a notch to balance his creative aspirations with technological relevance.
Composer & Sound Designer: His early career in the US included serving as the Music Composer for more than 50 titles. He also collaborated on high-concept art installations, such as Bradford Young’s “Funk God Jazz and Medicine,” showcasing his ability to merge sound design with visual art. Known for his trailer scores, his most recent composition was published by Eternal Eclipse as part of their cinematic trailer score library.
Hollywood Sync & Sound: Ram gained invaluable experience working within the ecosystem of Remote Control Productions and with teams associated with composers like Ramin Djawadi, Cliff Martinez, to name a few. These formative years honed his skills in high-profile film scoring and the rigorous demands of Hollywood scoring and sound design.
Transition to Entrepreneurship
Ram’s career pivot from pure creative work to leadership was driven by a vision to modernize the infrastructure of the Indian music business using his global toolkit.
Building the Netflix Music Vertical: Returning to India, Ram was instrumental in constructing the first Music Creative and Production vertical for Netflix in the Asia-Pacific region. He engineered a new workflow by introducing international standards for talent management, rights management, and composer agreements. This initiative was critical in supporting major titles like Jagame Thandhiram, Class, Chamkila, Archies, Qala, and defining the sonic branding for many titles.
Educational Catalyst: Acting as a bridge between international best practices and the Indian market, he partnered with Berklee Valencia to launch India’s first dedicated music supervision workshops. This initiative was designed to train a new generation of executives who could understand the legalities of music licensing as deeply as the creative process. This was followed by the first of its kind Music Editorial Workshop spearheaded by him, along with Academy Award Winner, John Warhurst, to expand the possibilities for musicians to find alternate yet related streams of job opportunities in the evolving music space.

Output: He was a key member of the team that developed “Signal, Exhale, Analog Brass and Winds, Analog Strings, Movement, Substance, Arcade, and many more,” revolutionizing the virtual instruments range that redefined how composers create songs and scores.
Native Instruments: His work involved deep-level sound design and synthesis for products like “Analog Dreams, Ethereal Earth, Straylight, Ashlight, helping to craft the sonic libraries that power modern pop and film scores.
Apple & Audyssey: His stints with these tech leaders focused on audio quality, building SIRI for Apple, and consumer sound technologies, reinforcing his status as a true technologist.
