The partnership will cover worldwide distribution for Femme Music’s three sub-labels across major digital streaming platforms.
Femme Music, an independent Indian record label focused on developing female artists, has signed a global distribution deal with Melbourne-based Community Music, an artist services and distribution company under UNIFIED Music Group.
Under the agreement, Community Music will handle worldwide distribution for Femme Music’s three sub-labels, Nyima Records, Tala Root Records and 34 Beats, across major digital service providers (DSPs).
Launched in 2024, Community Music offers distribution and artist services designed to support independent musicians. The partnership is aimed at expanding the global reach of Femme Music’s roster and creating opportunities for South Asian female artists in international markets.
The deal follows a meeting between Femme Music co-founder Sanoli Chowdhury and Community Music founder and UNIFIED Music Group founder Jaddan Comerford at All About Music in Mumbai earlier this year. What was scheduled as a 20-minute meeting reportedly extended to 90 minutes.
“Having the right distributor is a big deal,” says Chowdhury, adding that both companies share a similar approach to the long-term growth of independent artists. She notes that Femme Music is looking to partner with companies whose vision aligns with its own.
Femme Music co-founder Vinod Gadher says the partnership reflects the label’s priorities of independence, global reach and long-term artist development.
“Community Music is in line with everything we want for our artists: independence, global reach and a long-term view. Having an ecosystem that connects artists from India to New Zealand makes this a natural partnership for Femme Music,” Gadher says.
Comerford says the meeting with Chowdhury established a shared interest in working together, citing the label’s commitment to its artists and the culture behind their music.
“At Community Music, we’re focused on investing in talent and building long-term careers, and finding people like Sanoli is core to how we do that. Femme Music shares that vision, and we couldn’t be more excited to be part of its future,” he adds.
Femme Music most recently released Nyima Vol 2, a compilation focused on South Asian artists, through its sub-label Nyima Records.
The distribution agreement adds to the infrastructure supporting Femme Music’s international ambitions, as the label looks to build pathways for Indian female artists into the global music ecosystem.
