The Indian Performing Rights Society (IPRS) is set to celebrate World Intellectual Property Day (WIPD) on April 26th by hosting a series of events aimed at highlighting the significance of intellectual property rights in promoting innovation and creativity.
This year’s theme, “Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity,” will spotlight the pioneering contributions of women inventors, creators, and entrepreneurs globally and underscore the need for gender parity in the fields of innovation and creativity.
As a prominent advocate for the protection of the rights of music creators and publishers, IPRS recognizes the critical role played by intellectual property rights in the music industry. On April 26th, the organization will host a live session at 3:30 pm IST that will focus on the significance of intellectual property and the management and protection of creators’ rights. The session will take place online and is open to all.
The second session, a music roundtable at 5 pm IST, will feature leading female authors and composers sharing their experiences and perspectives, empowering the next generation of women creators.
The IPRS Women Wing, launched earlier this year, will have representatives at the roundtable who will provide insights into the IP scenario in the industry, including the challenges, opportunities, experiences, and strategies.
IPRS is a Music Copyright Society registered under the Copyright Act, 1957, with over 10,000 of India’s leading authors, composers, and music publishers as members. Under the Copyright Act, 1957, IPRS is authorized to grant and issue licenses in respect of musical works and literary works associated with musical works assigned to it by its members, as well as collect and distribute royalties to its members, including the authors’ statutory royalties, for the exploitation of these works, except when exhibited as part of a cinematograph film shown in a cinema hall.
