After a rather listless January (barring ‘Jaanu’) one was hoping Telugu music to bounce back to form in February. With Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘World Famous Lover’ awaiting release (who’s last couple of albums were sort of blockbusters) and with Valentine’s day around the corner, it was only fair to expect some interesting music coming our way. Here’s a look at how the 1st half of February held up.
Raletti – World Famous Lover – Gopi Sundar – Aditya Music
Apart from ‘Boggu Ganilo’ that was part of our January list, this is the only other song from the soundtrack that really appeals. Gopi opts for the ever-reliable Waltz sound and Divya S Menon’s sweet vocals are apt with the free-flowing tune. The whistle is a nice addition
This song is available only as part of the jukebox on Youtube.
Rating – 7/10
After a couple of blockbuster albums, this album is kind of a letdown for a Vijay Deverakonda film.
Whattey Beauty – Bheeshma – Mahati Swara Sagar – Aditya Music
The ‘Tha dhin dhin’ portion is mighty infectious and adds novelty to an otherwise standard template dance number for a Telugu movie that we have heard Thaman and DSP beat to pulp over the years. The ‘Twinkle twinkle’ reprise is as cliched as it can get. But Mahati keeps the interest going with the quirky sounds and the peppy arrangement. Dhanunjay and Amala Chebolu are excellent with the vocals. With Rashmika Mandanna in the thick of things, this one is sure to garner some eyeballs.
Rating – 8/10
Kotthaga Kotthaga – Miss India – Thaman S – Aditya Music
Shreya Ghoshal’s lively singing and the ‘Sa Re Ga Ma’ hook is what keeps one invested in this track that doesn’t offer anything new otherwise. Kamalakar’s flute interludes stand out. Thaman pitches in with his vocals as well in what is Shreya’s show all the way.
Rating – 6/10
Neeli Neeli Aakasam – 30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela – Anup Rubens – Lahari Music/T-Series
Anup hands a simple but endearing tune to Sid Sriram and Sid digs into it with ease. The arrangements are minimal and ambient keeping with the visuals that depict a rural love story. Sunitha’s pleasing vocals complement Sid’s well to make for an engaging track.
Rating – 7/10
Idera Sneham – 30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela – Anup Rubens – T-Series Telugu
This one from Anup works better than the other track as an overall package. The breezy tune, Armaan Malik’s assured rendition, the title hook, the guitar portions, Manisha Erabathini’s humming and Chandra Bose’s simple lyrics – all of if come together to create an instantly likable track.
Rating – 8/10
Despite a couple of significant releases and with Thaman, Gopi Sunder & Anup Rubens in the mix, the 1st half of February was mildly disappointing with respect to the output. Most tracks were mounted on standard templates with nothing new on offer. Mahati Swara Sagar shone as a bright spot and with ‘Bheeshma’ we hope to see him bagging bigger projects with the A-list stars – the spot his dad owned for a few years not too long ago.
