Sitar Maestro Purbayan Chatterjee to recreate Santana’s magic on Jim Beam Orginals

Carlos Santana is a name that is synonymous with the guitar. Ever since his superlative performance at the 1969 Woodstock Festival, Santana is considered among the greatest guitarists in the world.

Santana mixed melodic, blues-based lines with Latin and African rhythms and pioneered a fusion of rock ‘n’ roll and Latin American jazz.

How about recreating Santana’s classics with an Indian music undertone?

Jim Beam Originals aims to do just that.

This series of 10 virtual music experiences will feature famous Indian musicians recreate hits by legendary international artists in their own inimitable styles. Artists like Colonial Cousins, Shalmali, Benny Dayal, Shaan, Purbayan Chatterjee, Karsh Kale, Raghu Dixit, Usha Uthup, Thaikuddam Bridge, and Shor Police will recreate the music of a global music icon each.

The concert series is presented by PayTm Insider while it is curated and promoted by Turnkey Music Publishing and Music Plus.

After an unforgettable opening episode by the Colonial Cousins, Sitar maestro Purbayan Chatterjee and his band will showcase some of Santana’s classics in their signature style.

“I am very happy to be a part of Insider.in presents Jim Beam Originals. Recreating Carlos Santana’s timeless hits is a great challenge for an Indian classical sitar player but I am trying to add an Indian twist to his ever popular hook lines and also to find sprinklings of Indian melodies which go with the mood and milieu of some of these songs,” said Purbayan.

Let me give you a sneak peek into their setlist:

Into The Night
Oye Comova
Maria Maria

And many other hits.

Joining the Sitar maestro are his wife and vocalist Gayatri Asokan, guiratist Rickraj Nath and drummer/ percussionist Shikhar Naad Qureshi.

Talking about his performance, Purbayan explained,

“Very interestingly while we are looking at a very cosmopolitan audience who maybe Santana lovers, we are also looking at playing for an audience which is Indian at heart and is open to revisiting Indian motifs on an international canvas,”

The concert will be live on 21st November at 9 PM IST.
