A few more days to go until we ring in a new year. Each of us has something to remember 2019 for, including songs. The music streaming platforms gave independent artists the chance to showcase their talent and consumers welcomed them in a big way. Film music was dominated by hip hop/rap. Stars were born and the genre got main stream recognition. We take a look at the top songs of 2019 across music streaming platforms.
While the movie ‘Gully Boy’ made Divine a household name, it also gave the youth the anthem of the year with ‘Apna Time Aayega’. The song topped the most streamed song 2019 in Hindi category on Apple Music’s platform.
Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes’ ‘Senorita’ was the most streamed international song across streaming platforms. Despite it being the year of hip hop/rap, Kabir Singh movie soundtrack, with all original songs, was the most streamed album on JioSaavn and Spotify.
Top Songs – Hindi
Neha Kakkar was the most streamed female vocalist in the Hindi category with her super hit recreation ‘Aankh Maarey’ topping the Gaana most streamed Hindi songs chart.
There were surprises too such as Lil Nas X cross genre hit ‘Old town road’ (feat Billy Ray Cyrus) reaching the number 2 spot on Apple Music among other top songs.
Arijit Singh defended his throne by being the most streamed artist in the country while Tanishk Bagchi made a huge impact. Generally a song is streamed by searching for the singers and not the composer. Bagchi changed that scenario this year, becoming one of the top 3 searched artist of the year. Asees Kaur had a stellar year while Post Malone was the most popular international act.
Top Songs – International
Arijit’s brilliant vocals on ‘Pachtaoge’ from ‘Jaani Ve’ took the song among the top 3 on JioSaavn as well as Gaana’s charts.
Super hits like ‘O Saki Saki’ and ‘Bekhayli’ also feature in the top 3 lists of top songs on Spotify and JioSaavn. International hits like ‘Taki Taki’ by DJ Snake, Ed Sheeran and Justin Beiber’s collaborative single ‘I don’t care’ and ‘On My Way’ by Alan Walker, Sabrina Carpernter & Farruko feature across platforms.
