DotMusic Limited has won the rights to the coveted .music domain extension. .music joins other top-level domains (TLD) like .com, .net and .gov after a decade long battle with internet giants like Google and Amazon. The domain extension will create a safe haven for legal music consumption, connection and engagement.
Constantine Roussos, Founder and CEO of DotMusic Limited, headed the. music community-led initiative in 2008 globally, to provide a verified, trusted and secure platform to all the artists, music publishers, composers, and songwriters an opportunity to protect names against cyber-squatters. .music registry will serve as a global music community application with leading pure-play registries such as Donuts, Radix and MMX. Roussos was declared the victor in April 2019.
Global music industry extends support to .music
.music initiative is supported by 95 % of the organizations that support global music consumption. Roussos will now bill .music as a safe online space for artists, record labels and other music-related brands and organisations.

Gadi Oron, Director General of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) joined hands in welcoming .music and said,
“As the world’s largest global network for creators, with member societies in over 120 countries, CISAC welcomes the .music domain and the opportunities it can create to develop a stronger and more responsible environment for licensed music.”
DotMusic will be able to ensure creators that intellectual property rights are valued on all. music sites. The independent music sector is also ensured to grow by tackling infringement. .music will now be able to guarantee the authenticity of the economic, social and artistic interests of musicians globally. It is the first domain extension launched with music-tailored policies to protect creators’ rights and ensure legitimacy.
ICANN will award DotMusic the rights to the .music top-level domain name extension and move to a contract soon. The .Music registry team will work closely with the global music community and the DotMusic Governance Board to prepare for the safe, responsible and prudent launch of .music.The expected launch for .music is 2020.
