April 26, 2019, 8:30 pm
As bFLAT continues to celebrate its milestone 10th anniversary as an independent
performance venue in Bangalore, it also continues to support independent,
original music. This time bFLAT Indiranagar presents 2 young bands from
Ahmedabad and a solo artist from Bombay who are easily among the most
talented indie artists emerging from the sub-continent.
(Early set) Flying Shoe
Flying Shoe is an Indie folk/ Pop project by singer-songwriter Omkar Potdar a.k.a. Omi. Omi’s songs leave you with a great, yet dichotomous aftertaste— one of love, warmth and melancholy.
What makes the Flying Shoe experience is the intimacy that the songs reverberate, the lost feeling of familiarity, the nostalgia.
With crowd-favourites like “Rollercoaster” and “Paperboats”, Flying Shoe has already left his first of many everlasting impressions on audiences across various cities in India. With a debut EP due early this year, Flying Shoe is an artist to watch out for. The Ep is produced by Zain Calcuttawala (Bulli Bainbridge) at Island City Studios, Mumbai and features incredibly talented musicians like Karun Kannampilly (Koniac Net) and Yohaan Pissurlenker (Calico) to name a few.
Meera Desai is a singer who was born and raised in New York and moved to Ahmedabad 2 years ago where she began further studies of Hindustani Classical music. She now studies with Shri Vikas Parikh, both students of Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj. Her background is in western music and jazz, however, and while she was here she began to write more and more English songs that she began sharing with more and more people. Her western inspirations align more to The Swell Season, Sara Bareilles, Norah Jones, and Regina Spektor.
She recently worked with Raag Sethi to release an original EP of lyrical folk and jazz-inspired pop, titled ‘I’ve Never Been Happier to Be Lost,’ from which a few songs were featured on Apple music’s top playlists.
Meera also spends her time as a music and culture correspondent and writer at Creative Yatra, exploring topics related to Hindustani classical and Indian indie music. In addition, she volunteers at Compass Box Studio, where she handles communications and curates the spoken word live sessions.
Heat Sink is an Indie band based in Ahmedabad. Their sound ranges from Jazz to Progressive Rock and includes diverse styles and themes. The band attempts a very organic sound by experimenting with vocal melodies, harmonic ideas, and lyrics with a healthy combination of both the theoretical and emotional aspects of music. Their debut EP is currently in production at Compass Box Studios. They have performed at multiple events such as The Big Squat Festival, The Piano Man Jazz Club, The Quorum, CEPT University, and House Concerts Delhi. Social media.
