Bombay Bassment at Fandom
April 14, 2018, 8:00 pm
Mumbai-based reggae and urban music outfit Bombay Bassment, known for their high-energy performances, are back with a new EP called OK, Dance, packed with infectious rhythms and carnivalesque sounds.
Formed in 2010 as a four-piece act, the line-up today consists of Bobkat (Robert Omulo, MC), Ruell (Ruell Barretto, bass) and MajorC (Chandrashekhar Kunder, samples/percussion). With fun at the centre of everything they do, Bombay Bassment’s music-making philosophy has seen few changes since 2010. The Mumbai-based urban music act, which has two albums under its belt – Bombay Bassment and Bombay Bassment X FUNCVIP, has earned a reputation for its uninhibited live performances and playful energy that makes hip-shaking compelling.
Their new EP, OK, Dance delivers on all that Bombay Bassment are known for. The five tracks traverse the lanes of reggae, hip-hop, Afro-beats and street style, and stay true to the theme of the album, delineated in the name. Dance, is what each track is tailored to initiate, and should appeal to fans, and even non-fans, of Bombay Bassment.
They won ‘Converse: Original Band Hunt’, as well as ‘GOLD for Best Hip-Hop Group’, ’SILVER for Best Hip-Hop Song’, and ‘BRONZE for Genre Bending Act’, at the South Asian IndioGo Music Awards. • With billings at major festivals in India like the Bacardi NH7 Weekender, SulaFest, Ziro Music Festival, and Jaipur Literature Festival, Bombay Bassment became the 1st Indian Hip Hop act to play at the Glastonbury Festival in the UK in June 2016.

Fresh off the block with his foray on the world stage with his band; ‘Major C’ has recently returned from ‘Glastonbury’ having performed at the illustrious music festival along with the likes of Coldplay, Adele, LCD Sound system , Congo Natty, Protoje to name a few. But ‘Major C’ is no rookie with the big guns, having opened and shared stage with ‘Snoop Dogg’, yes the original gangsta daddy of ‘hip-hop’, in the year 2013 and also Shared stage with the legendary reggae band ”The Wailers” in the year 2015.
Apart from setting the stage alight with Afro Caribbean beats, ‘Major C’ has just composed the entire background score for a web-series, named ‘Lost & Found’ directed by the acclaimed ‘Kaizad Gustad’ in their debut venture together.
DJ’ing professionally since 1993 with residencies in watering-holes such as Club escape, Razzberry Rhinoceros, Blackout and Grand Canyon, ‘MAJOR C’ added another virtual feather to his trademark hat by touring with ‘Apache Indian’ on a four-city tour of the country.
