Beyoneter Samne Lopamudra
January 26, 6:30 pm
The word 'scare' has never scared this lady. Her growing days were nourished with songs of rebellion: bidroho aaj bidroho charidike. Her youth was steeped in the learning of songs from people's theater (ganonatya). She lent her inimitable voice to songs that sing about working together, walking together, protesting and dreaming together. Her powerful voice, her uniquely dramatic style, her simple charm, and bright smile can lend power to all around her. Although she feels this society, its songs are facing an invisible bayonet, she is yet again ready to sing aloud "Dheu uthchhe Kara tutchhe Pran jagchhe…."
A few days back, in an interview to a Bengali newspaper she had said, when I look around, when I listen, what I understand or what I am forced to believe makes me realize what we had desired is a far cry from what we have. The truth is, I am not even sure what I want anymore. I don't even want to think about what I deserved. Or is it that I am too scared to even think, to indulge in dreams? Brain freeze? Perhaps that is why I have locked myself out, steered away from the news, as they leave me more scarred… But this is not the time to think of what we desired and what we acquired. This is not the time to recede in fear. Believe me, I do want to shout out loud and ask…!
Kriti, as always, has touched the right chord and has made this possible. Kriti has given Lopamudra the stage to connect with her people again. What better day than 26 January 2020, to spend an evening with this indomitable master of bold voice and thoughts, Ms. Lopamudra Mitra. We will be there at the Birla Shabhaghar auditorium, at 6 pm. Will you?
