27th June 2019 shall mark the 80th birthday of the maestro Rahul Dev Burman. We shall celebrate this day singing and humming his remarkable compositions along with the great Amit Kumar and the dynamic Javed Ali at a super concert organized by Bollywood retro concert experts Centrestage at Nazrul Mancha, Kolkata. Akriti Kakkar, gen-next rage, shall join the show with memorable numbers of Lata Ji & Asha Ji. Amit Kumar & Javed Ali shall be supported by the reigning queen of Mumbai stage-shows Shailaja Subramanian on vocals. Shailaja shall also regale with some solo renditions. They will be backed up by a coterie of the best musicians from Mumbai led by percussion genius Anupam Ghatak and a mixed choral choir. Technical support shall be provided by the best in business from Mumbai & Kolkata and this sure promises to be an audio-visual treat.
Amit Kumar is a living legend and has sung more than 150 songs for RD Burman. He had been nurtured by RD Burman and is Pancham’s closest disciple. Amit Kumar shall sing songs of his illustrious father as well as many of his own hits composed by Pancham da. He shall share anecdotes from his personal association with Pancham Da. Javed Ali is the new generation rage having sung iconic songs like ‘Jashne bahara’ from Jodha Akbar (Music Dir: A R Rahman), his forte lies in his own style of presenting Md. Rafi’s songs. He is classically trained and thus can do great justice to songs sung by Manna Dey too. This concert in a long time shall see songs of both legends Kishore Kumar & Md. Rafi being performed by two accomplished playback singers in a Pancham tribute show at Kolkata. We will also touch upon songs from the other great legends Lata Ji, Asha Ji, Mukesh Ji, Usha Uthup and the Bollywood playback stalwart Suresh Wadkar.
This year being the 100th birth-year of the great Manna Dey, we have decided to keep a segment on him and this segment will be a unique tribute to both Manna Dey and R D Burman. This segment will feature songs sung by the great Manna Dey composed by R D Burman and shall be presented by Javed Ali.
