One of the oldest Indian rap crews and pioneers of rap and hip hop in India, they have bagged three awards at the 2016 Radio City Freedom Awards, for Hip Hop/Rap Artist (Public Choice), Hip Hop/Rap Artist (Jury’s Choice), Indie Collaboration. Known for their authenticity, intricate rhymes and cut throat flows, today, the Mumbais Finest are the biggest Independent Hip-Hop act in the country.
Since 2006 they have been making brilliant music independently and they didn’t stop there, over the years they have quite a few accolades from collaborating with AR Rahman, Salim Sulaiman, Flo – Rida, Chamiliionaire to winning multiple awards. With over 100 shows on TV and Radio, the group has performed for MTV, MTV Indies, VH1, 9XO, 9XM, Channel V, Colors, Radio City, Radio One etc.
Now, Ace, the frontman of the crew has a song in the upcoming Bollywood film Gully Boy. Having performed with international and Grammy Winning artists, the Mumbais Finest has successfully completed over 500 shows across the country at esteemed venues that include NH7 Weekender, Red Bull Street style, VansNew Wave Asia Fest, Youth International Dance Showcase, Channel V Footloose, Mtv Wassup Youngistaan, BlueFrog, Hard Rock Cafe, The Humming Tree etc.
Over the years, they have helped empower the hip hop movement across India. This is Mumbais Finest, the first rap and hip hop collective from Mumbai, India.
What is the origin of your band’s name and how did you form your band?
Mumbai’s Finest is a name that changed into a title. We are the best at what we do and we love Mumbai. That is why Mumbai’s Finest. We are a crew, not a band actually. Hip Hop bought us all together and the rest was destiny. We met at local hip hop shows and began making music together.
What inspired you to make music and what is the theme that you ty to portray?
The Daily struggles of Life, life in Mumbai and our favorite Rappers. Our Content is usually feel good, motivational and inspirational. We always intend to spread positive energy through our songs.
How has your music evolved since you first began playing music?
We were learning then and we are learning now too. Our skills have developed and we understand music better now.
What has been your biggest challenge as a band?
We have overcome all challenges over the years as we are loyal to each other and the crew. Life is good!
How do you see the approach of independent musicians in our country?
We need to be united as an industry. We got love for every Indie Artist that works hard.
Any upcoming project that you are working on?
Ace has already released ‘Second To None’. We also have Different releasing ‘ Starchild ‘ and a lot more music from Mumbai’s Finest Records.
