Kelly Clarkson, who is hosting the award show for the second year in a row, announced this year’s nominees for the Billboard Music Awards 2019.
The 2019 Billboard Music Awards will be broadcast from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Wednesday, 1 May.
Cardi B is the most-nominated artist for the 2019 Billboard Music Awards. After the release of her debut album “Invasion of Privacy” a year ago, Cardi B’s nominations include Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Rap Artist, Top Selling Song and Top Rap Album. She’s credited for three multi-nominated songs, “I Like It,” “Girls Like You” and “Taki Taki.”
The “I Like It” singer, who made history this year as the only solo female rapper to win the best rap album Grammy, will compete for the top artist prize against Drake, Ariana Grande, Post Malone and Travis Scott.
Drake and Post Malone tie for second-most nominations with 17, Travis Scott follows with 12, the late controversial rapper XXXTentacion nabbed 10 and Ariana Grande took nine.
Among the other nominees are Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper — who are up for the chart achievement award, top soundtrack for A Star Is Born, and top-selling song for “Shallow.” Gaga is up separately for top song sales artist.
So, how are the nominees selected? Well, there are a lot of factors. According to Billboard, the finalists are determined based on key interactions with fans, album and digital song sales, radio airplay, streaming, touring and social engagement. Performance on the Billboard Charts plays a role, too. This year, the awards are based on a chart period from 23 March 2018 to 7 March 2019.
