Here’s what went down at the American Music Awards 2018

The American Music Awards held their 46th annual chapter on the 9th of October 2018 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.

Pop star Taylor Swift ensured the night got off to a dramatic start with a smoke, flames and props filled performance of “I Did Something Bad” from her 2017 album Reputation. She didn’t do ‘bad’ at all for the night, winning four awards including the Artist of the Year. Pop Diva Mariah Carey also returned to the AMA stage to present the live television debut of “With You,” a single from her forthcoming unnamed album. Cuban singer/songwriter Camila Cabello, who released her debut solo album ‘Camila’ earlier this year, owned the stage as she performed her latest release, “Consequences,” with a full orchestra behind her. “Consequences” is Camila’s final single off her debut album.

The nights most electric performance was broadcast live from Sydney, Australia, as Panic! At the Disco covered ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ as a tribute to the legendary rock and roll band Queen. Brendon Urie, frontman for Panic! At the Disco, had the crowd floored with his interpretation of the Late Freddie Mercury’s most memorable song.
Camila Cabello had the most memorable night out as she took home the ‘New Artist of the Year’ beating the likes of Cardi B, Khalid, Dua Lipa and XXXTENTACION. She along with Young Thug also picked up the Best Collaboration, Favourite Pop/Rock song and Favourite Video for their superhit ‘Havana’. Cardi B wasn’t disappointed as she took home the Favourite Artist Rap/HipHop. Taylor Swift, the Artist of the Year 2018, broke late Whitney Houstan’s record of the most AMA wins as she took her kitty to 23 awards.

The night ended with a moving dedication to the ‘Queen of Soul’, the late Aretha Franklin. The tribute saw an all-star line-up of Gladys Knight, Ledisi, Donnie McClurkin, CeCe Winans and Mary Mary perform to a medley that focused on Franklin’s gospel roots, including several hymns that she had performed famous renditions of.
