YouTube launches new music charts for 44 countries; Indian singers enter Top Artists segment

YouTube has launched a new music chart on 10 May 2018 to provide a snapshot of the most popular artists, top songs, and top music videos on its platform. It will continue to expand its existing charts to 44 countries including the U.S, Japan, Germany, Brazil and the U.K., also the YouTube charts have a new Trending graph as well. The best part is we saw a few Indian singers such as Alka Yagnik, Arijit Singh and Udit Narayan on the Top Artists chart.

According to the official announcement, the new charts are “based purely on the number of views and are a reflection of the success achieved by artists on the world’s most expansive music platform.”

Trending

This new chart is updated multiple times a day to provide a real-time view of the new music fans are playing. It represents YouTube’s “first dedicated external signal of the most viewed new music on the platform,” the announcement reads, providing an instant snapshot of what users are reacting to.

Top Artists

The weekly (Sunday 12 pm PST) updated chart highlights the most popular artists on YouTube, based on the total views of their entire discography, official music videos, official live performances, remixes, lyric videos, album tracks, and associations. Guess what? On this chart along with Ed Sheeran, Daddy Yankee, we saw a few Indian singers’ names too such as Alka Yagnik, Arijit Singh and Udit Narayan.

Top Music Videos

The weekly (Sunday) updated chart highlights the most-viewed official music videos on the YouTube. Also, there is a Play button on the right where you can play the whole list.

Top Songs

Noticeably enough, this chart features the figure of views a song has gathered on YouTube. By combining all official versions of a song, counting the official music video, the Top Songs chart shows in what way users are consuming music on YouTube.

All the YouTube’s charts are updated weekly on Sundays at 12 pm PST, highlights the number of views a track has.
