You changed the entire concept of the Morning Drive Time Show. What/Whom would you credit this to?
Often people would get stuck while commuting in the morning on their way to work. We wanted to create a show which would make their commute an entertaining one. And I believe ‘Suhaana Safar with Annu Kapoor’ has been successful in doing so year on year. Being a member of the film fraternity, I have gained deep knowledge and insights about Hindi cinema, which I share through my show. My prolific team along with the radio station 92.7 BIG FM, equally play an important role in the unprecedented success the show has garnered today.
The average Attention span of a radio listener was 1.15 minutes; your show was responsible for a drastic rise in this. Your take.
It has been 5 years since the show has been on-air and it is truly gratifying to see the response we continue to receive. It is indeed a real challenge to sustain the attention of the audience on radio in comparison to television or other mediums, since it is primarily the voice of an RJ that can engage the audience. To add to that, it is the high-quality content which keeps the listeners glued to a show and we can proudly say that our content supersedes everything. Our stories revolve around the theme of Hindi cinema supplemented with soulful music, which is the excelling factor and drives the popularity of the show year after year.
Some RJs are known as ‘Show Prep Monsters’ including yourself. How do you prepare yourself for a show?
I like to do a complete research about any story before narrating it to my listeners. My team and I dig deep and look out for information which is not easily available on the internet. A thorough emphasis is laid on cross-checking information before it goes live. Also, content is built considering special occasions like a personality’s birthday or 15 August, 25 January or Gandhi Jayanti; and each episode is recorded accordingly.
Which has been your most memorable episode so far?
We create each show in the way that they become memorable for our listeners. It will be difficult for me to pick one episode as such as all episodes have an interesting tale to tell.
Any particular crazy fan incident, in the last 5 years, that comes to your mind?
Fans are never crazy. One must appreciate someone who appreciates your good work. So, I have huge regards for my fans. They have made the show what it is today. The show has expanded the radio universe completely. I am truly grateful to the loyal audience of Suhaana Safar with Annu Kapoor and look forward to entertain the young people joining in.
