Ranjani – Gayatri and Kaushiki Chakraborty in ‘SPIRITUAL MORNING’ BY THE BAY

This year’s Spiritual Morning concert by Pancham Nishad will be presented as a confluence of Carnatic Classical and Hindustani Classical music, the two schools of thought in the Indian Classical Music, to be presented by Ranjani-Gayatri sisters and Kaushiki Chakraborty respectively, the most talented, popular renowned vocalists from the world of Indian Classical Music. This unique event is scheduled, to be held at the heritage site, Gateway of India on Sunday, 6th January, 2019 at 6.30 a.m. The concert is non – ticketed and open to all music lovers.
The co – artiste for the concert are Ajay Joglekar on (Harmonium), Ojas Adhiya on (Tabla), Vitthal Rangan on (Violin) and Saigiridhar Kuchibotla on (Mridangam).
The event is presented by Tata Capital and co – sponsored by Bank of Baroda, All Cargo Logistics Ltd, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd., and supported by Cultural Ministry of Maharashtra and Mumbai Port Trust.
Spirituality and Meditativeness are the essence of Indian Classical music. Our music, very subtly inspires a soulward voyage of deep introspection and imbues bliss that words fall short of, in the hearts of music connoisseurs.
Thus, very befittingly, in the open expanse of the heritage monument, the Gateway of India, caressed by the gentle breeze and the waves of the Arabian Sea, was born Spiritual Morning concert. Conceptualised by Shashi Vyas, founder-director of Pancham Nishad, this unique one of its kind concert begins at the crack of dawn with the first rays of the soft winter sun in the month of January.
Year after year since 2002 the concert begins at the stroke of sunrise and as the sun becomes brighter the maestros perform some of the choicest of ragas enthralling the audiences in ecstasy.
This event has witnessed performances by some of the legendary and eminent artiste of Indian Classical Music like Pandit Jasraj, Kishori Amonkar, Hariprasad Chaurasia, Shivkumar Sharma, Amjad Ali Khan, L. Subramanium, Zakir Hussain, Rashid Khan, Rajan –Sajan Mishra and Shankar Mahadevan to name a few.
Born into a family steeped music, Ranjani and Gayatri’s musical talent was discovered at a very earlier age. The sister even as toddlers, showed an uncanny capacity to grasp the subtle nuances of Carnatic music. Their musical career was launched as they barely reached their teens. Through their intense training and fine artistry, they quickly established themselves as top class vocalists of international repute. In the last more than ten years, Ranjani- Gayatri have performed at various platforms in India and abroad and enthralled innumerable music lovers spread across the globe by their mellifluous and content oriented musical repertoire .
Kaushiki Chakraborty, daughter of eminent vocalist Ajoy Chakraborty, is one of the most leading and sought after young classical vocalist of India. Her every performance in India and abroad commands the patronage of both discerning and general listeners of Indian Classical Music. She is also known for her winsome command over semi – classical repertoire Thumri, Kajri, Chaiti and devotional music. Recently she has formed her own group titled as ‘SAKHI’ featuring all female artistes comprising of instrumentalist, percussionist and a Dancer.
